Kasey Renee Shaw

Kasey Renee Shaw (She/Her/They/Them) is an MFA Candidate at West Virginia University. She is the Editor-in-Chief at Cheat River Review as well as the Creative Nonfiction Head Editor at littledeathlit. Her essays and fiction can be found in various places, including Hobart, 45th Parallel, Every Day Fiction, Sphere Literary Magazine, and more. 

Rachael Bradley
Rachael Bradley

Rachael Bradley (She/Her) is the Managing Editor and Creative Nonfiction Editor at Cheat River Review. An MFA candidate at West Virginia University, she splits her time between Appalachia, the Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest. When she is not reading or writing, you can find her in the kitchen tending to her beloved sourdough starter.

Caroline Riley

Caroline Riley (She/Her) is a poet and writer serving as the social media editor with CRR. She is an MFA candidate at WVU, where her genre is poetry. Caroline grew up in the D.C. area and now lives in Morgantown, WV with her husband, Edd and chihuahua, Maddie.

Morgan Roediger

Morgan Roediger (She/Her) is an MFA Candidate at West Virginia University. She is the Fiction Editor at Cheat River Review. Her fiction can be found at the Potomac Review. When not being an editor, Morgan can be found wandering her collection of houseplants or dictating sourdough and focaccia recipes to her cats.

Gabriel Bass
Gabriel Bass

Gabriel Lee Bass (he/they) is the media editor for CRR. He studies poetry and teaches at WVU. His poems have appeared in various publications including Into the Void Magazine and Argot and have received awards from the Poets’ Roundtable of his native Arkansas. He currently lives in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Vincent Frontero

Vincent Frontero (He/Him) is a third-year MFA candidate in poetry at West Virginia University. He is the poetry editor for Cheat River Review. He is originally from a little beach town in Central New Jersey. He enjoys mostly baking.

Katie Clendenin (She/Her) is a second-year MFA candidate in creative nonfiction. She is from Charleston, West Virginia and received her undergraduate degree in English from West Virginia University in 2018. Katie’s work has appeared in Little Death Lit.

Storey Clayton (Nonfiction)

Storey Clayton (He/Him) is a third-year MFA candidate in Creative Nonfiction at WVU. He’s worked as a youth counsellor, debate coach, strategic analyst, development director, rideshare driver, and poker player. In the past two years, his nonfiction has appeared in twenty literary journals, including Pleiades, Lunch Ticket, Mud Season Review, Typehouse Literary Magazine, and North Dakota Quarterly. Leslie Wilbur (Fiction and Nonfiction)
Leslie Wilbur (Fiction and Nonfiction)

Leslie Wilbur (She/Her) is a first-year fiction writer in the MFA program. She is a former newspaper reporter and bicycle mechanic who likes tinkering with words and broken stuff. Her undergraduate degree is in journalism, from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her work has appeared in Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet.

Matthew Dougherty (Fiction)

Matthew Dougherty (He/Him) grew up in Ohio and taught elementary school in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. His stories have appeared or are forthcoming in Salamander, Sonora Review, and Crab Orchard Review, all as contest winners. He also enjoys writing and performing original songs under the artist name Matt Skerk.

Grace Smith (She/Her) is a writer and teacher from Baltimore, Maryland.

Vahid Arefi (Fiction)
Vahid Arefi (Fiction)

Vahid Arefi (He/Him) is an MFA candidate at West Virginia University. Vahid is an Iranian American and grew up in Michigan, Italy, Germany, and France. He studied creative writing and engineering with concentrations in fiction, energy and sustainability at the University of Michigan. His fiction has appeared in Midwestern Gothic’s Summer Flash Fiction Contest. Previously, in the first grade, he won Terzo Premio in the Collegio San Giuseppe art competition. He’s still riding that high.

Karen Klein (Fiction)
Karen Klein (Fiction)

Karen Klein (She/Her) is a second-year MFA candidate in fiction. She taught secondary English for 25 years including in Alaska, India, and Poland before applying to join the WVU MFA program. She is glad she did it. When she is not writing, you can find her out with her horse, Rosie, or hiking.

Paige Perla (Poetry)
Paige Perla (Poetry)

Paige Perla (She/Her) is a graduate student at West Virginia University in the Professional Writing and Editing Master’s program. She is Pittsburgh born and bred, but currently lives in Morgantown while attending school. While she loves writing poetry and short stories of her own, her hope is to work in book publishing as an editor. She enjoys reading classic books, watching videos of otters, and antagonizing her cat, Simba

Edward France

Ashley Preece
Ashley Preece

Ashley Preece (she/her) is an MFA candidate in poetry, and will be reading for poetry as well. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an undergraduate in English back in 2019. She’s a total introvert, so she spends most of her time reading and/or writing, or trying out yet another recipe in search of the perfect apple pie.
